Christian Peacemaker Teams Held Hostage In Iraq
EDITED BY TRICIA GATES BROWN On November 26, 2005, Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) members Tom Fox and Jim Loney along with delegation members Norman Kember and Harmeet Sooden were kidnapped in Iraq. Tom Fox was killed on March 9, 2006. Jim, Norman and Harmeet were freed two weeks later on March 23 after 118 days of captivity. The kidnapping of these four peacemakers was like a rock thrown into a pond. This collection describes the ripples on the water, the impact and results of that rock, in stories characterized by hope, courage, friendship, and forgiveness. Also included is a chapter entitled, "Tom Fox: a Profile of an Ordinary Man's Calling to an Extraordinary Life" by Selby McCash and Johannes Williams.

When the 40-day journey is over, it will no longer be the guide's description of the journey that stirs the reader's longing for God, but rather the reader's experience of the journey that grounds her or his faith and life. The book contains a short introduction to Parker Palmer's life and offers forty chapters, which include readings from his writings, Scripture passages, queries, journal-reflection exercises, and prayer.

Poems
BY NIKKI GIOVANNI A collection of eighty all new poems, Acolytes is distinctly Nikki Giovanni, but different. Not softened, but more inspired by love, celebration, memories and even nostalgia. She aims her intimate and sparing words at family and friends, the deaths of heroes and friends, favorite meals and candy, nature, libraries, and theatre. But in between, the deep and edgy conscience that has defined her for decades shines through when she writes about Rosa Parks, hurricane Katrina, and Emmett Till's disappearance, leaving no doubt that Nikki has not traded one approach for another, but simply made room for both.

With the first sunset, Adam and Eve learn how to get through the night and not be afraid of the dark. And when the new day dawns, they bless God for creating the day and the night. A Guide To Economic Theology
BY DUNCAN FOLEY A member of Morningside Meeting in New York, Duncan Foley attempts to separate the economic sphere of life from the rest of social life, where the pursuit of self-interest is morally problematic and has to be weighed against other ends. Smith argued that the "market" results in tremendous gains in productivity, which lead to a higher standard of living, yet the market does not address the problem of how this gain in wealth is to be divided among the members of society, nor does it address such problems as the well-being of the planet. Beautifully written with interesting observations and insights on almost every page.

Love And Spirituality In The Healing Of Addictions

He also details the various addictions from which we can suffer, not only to substances like alcohol and drugs, but to work, sex, performance, responsibility, and intimacy. Drawing on his experience as a psychiatrist working with the chemically dependent, May emphasizes that addiction represents an attempt to assert complete control over our lives. BY VERGIL, TRANSLATED BY SARAH RUDEN This extraordinary new translation of the "Aeneid" stands alone among modern Vergil translations for its accuracy and poetic appeal. Quaker poet, Sarah Ruden is the first woman to translate Vergil's great epic, and she renders the poem in the same number of lines as the original work--a very rare feat that maintains technical fidelity to the original without diminishing its emotional power. Ruden adheres closely to the poet's message. Her rendering of Vergil's words gives immediacy to his struggling faith that history has beauty and purpose in spite of its pain.
