Jonathan Wright Plummer
Quaker Philanthropy
BY ELIZABETH WARREN
Brief Description:
Considered the "father" of Friends General conference (FGC). In 1878 he conceived the idea of a conference that would consider all the social testimonies of Friends. A minute of Illinois Yearly Meeting allowed him to invite representatives of several Yearly Meetings to hold such a general conference every few years. It was this that eventually became FGC in 1900. A biography of this very active Quaker philanthropist.
