I picked up this book and its small companion, a resource guide, in my continuing quest to formulate a series for my Meeting addressing core religious experience in a meaningful way. As I am reviewing it, I am finding it meets many needs, and is seamless as it addresses important aspects of spiritual life and Quaker experience. The author, clearly steeped in biblical and Quaker truth, understands the importance of eliciting from the reader the journey of the reader. She addresses leadership through the journey of leadings and discipleship. Recent experience has shown how authority is presented in ways that limit, with emphases that mirror the assumptions of 'good business' over the prophetic. J. Isbell offers a thoughtful way to consider leadership and discipleship through the lens of our experience, offering us opportunity for deep reflection together, and the opportunity to discover how we fit.
