The Ancient Civilizations Of The Southwest
BY SCOTT WARREN SECONDHAND, pretty good condition. School library type book, his is an investigation of three loosely identified Native American cultural groups: the Anasazi, the Hohokam, and the Mogollon. The first three brief chapters are an explanation of archaeological techniques and a description of the physical setting that was home to the cultures included. Each is then depicted in separate chapters. The book is graced with attractive color photographs, many of them full-page. BY DOUGLAS WOOD, ILLUSTRATED BY PATRICK JAMES LYNCH "Wood tackles the enormity of death and the meaning of prayer in a way that is both accessible and meaningful. A boy walks with his grandfather, who is his best friend. As they stroll through woods and past streams, the boy asks those questions that grandparents are on earth to answer 'Why' 'What if?' and about prayers. Lucidly, the grandfather explains that trees 'pray' as they reach for the sky, that waters pray, that the wind prays and sings at the same time." - Kirkus Reviews

BY BOB GRAHAM "No one saw the bird fall." In a city full of hurried people, only young Will notices the bird lying hurt on the ground. With the help of his sympathetic mother, he gently wraps the injured bird and takes it home. In classic Bob Graham style, the beauty is in the details: the careful ministrations with an eyedropper, the bedroom filled with animal memorabilia, the saving of the single feather as a good-luck charm for the bird's return to the sky. Wistful and uplifting, here is a tale of possibility - and of the souls who never doubt its power. "Poignantly told and visually rich, this narrative flies high." - Publishers Weekly
