Princess Ruth of the Kamehama family was a member of the founding dynasty of the kingdom of Hawaii and served as its royal governor from 1855-1874. This novel is deeply grounded in the history of Hawaii, its relationship with colonialists, and life on the island of Kauai. Although a work of fiction, it is carefully researched with 54 pages of endnotes. The author is a member of the Friends meeting in Honolulu.
