QUAKER PRESS

“We have no time but this present time to bear witness to the power of the Light to re-create the human heart, and thus transform our doing, our seeing, and our speaking. There is much tenderness and good will among us, but have we been baptized with fire, as well as the Holy Spirit?”

— Brian Drayton, from On Living with a Concern for Gospel Ministry, 2006

Quaker Press of FGC publishes resources that nurture meetings and individual Friends. We are committed to an historical ministry as “publishers of Truth” in the experience of Friends. We work closely with other FGC programs to produce books and other resources that help to foster individual and corporate spiritual growth and public witness. Quaker history, biography, early Quaker writings, devotionals, reflective essays, fiction and memoir speak to Friends’ living ministry. Quaker Press supports leadership and community-building through resources on Quaker faith and practice, worship, clerking, and outreach. Curricula for adults and youth offer opportunities for group study of the Quaker faith and testimonies—including the life and message of Jesus as found in the Bible and guidance on how to incorporate our faith in our daily lives.

Quakers, African Americans And The Myth Of Racial Justice

BY DONNA MCDANIEL AND VANESSA JULYE
There is a common misconception that most Quakers assisted fugitive slaves and involved themselves in civil rights activism because of their belief in equality. While there were Friends committed to ending enslavement and post-enslavement injustices, Fit for Freedom, Not for Friendship reveals that racism has been as insidious, complex, and pervasive among Friends as it has been generally among people of European descent. The book documents the spiritual and practical impacts of discrimination in the Religious Society of Friends in the belief that understanding the truth of our past is vital to achieving a diverse, inclusive community in the future.

The Story Of George Fox And The Quakers

BY JANE YOLEN
First published over 30 years ago Friend: The Story of George Fox and the Quakers remains a timeless gift. It brings to light, for young and old Friends, the life and legacy of the founder of Quakerism. Fox was a larger than life personality in a turbulent period in English history. Jane Yolen's biography sets the context and chronicles Fox's spiritual development. Never released in a paperback edition, we are pleased to offer this new edition with a foreword by Larry Ingle. "Torn by war and wracked by uncertainty and doubt, the people of Fox's age wanted answers, and our author demonstrates those he offered." - Larry Ingle
