The story of Roy Kepler of Kepler's Books and Magazines, a San Francisco bookstore that was long a hub for literary bohemians, countercultural musicians, and readers interested in a good browse. A leader in the "paperback revolution," Kepler popularized the once radical idea of selling affordable books in an intellectually bracing coffeehouse atmosphere. From this venue, Kepler contributed the principles of radical pacifism and social change as well as creating a community and space for exchange of ideas among such figures as Joan Baez, Jerry Garcia, and Stewart Brand.
