Brief Description:
Introduces readers to some of the various religious communities that existed in the late 1800s. Orphaned Naomi seeks refuge in a Shaker village. The Shakers take her in and begin to teach her their way of life. Naomi is upset by some of the Shaker traditions but is grateful for their help and training as an herbalist.
