Teaching Nonviolence
Audio Cd
BY DAVID FREUDBERG
Brief Description:
Swimming in a sea of violent imagery from popular culture, where do today's children receive reinforcement for the skills of peacefully resolving conflict? This popular NPR documentary takes listeners to a toy store where Nancy Carlson-Paige, peace education professor at Leslie University, analyzes war toys. Then we attend an inner city Boston elementary school which has adopted Peacegames, a curriculum based on non-competitive play and community service. Also, we visit a public high school outside Washington where author Colman McCarthy teaches a daily Peace Studies class.
