Conveys the absolute horror and pointlessness of the war without being too gruesome. He tells of the war, its course till then, the commanders reactions, and of the effect the truce had on the opposing soldiers. Definitely a thoughtful anti war book and he draws lessons that he applies to the Iraq invasion.
