USED BOOKS

We are now selling secondhand Quaker Books. These have been kindly donated to us by Friends and Meetings who no longer need them. This means the books can be read again by fresh eyes and the money paid goes to aid the work of FGC. Often the books are out of print and no longer easily found. The books are offered as reading copies, and are not usually in pristine condition. Maybe you have unwanted Quaker Books or Pamphlets. All Things Must Fight To Live (995)

All Things Must Fight To Live (995)

Stories Of War And Deliverance In Congo

BY BRIAN MEALER
Not for the faint of heart. Bryan Mealer travelled extensively in the Congo after the bitter wars that spilled in from Rwanda. He searches for hope and does find some in ordinary courageous people, but he also found madness and senseless slaughter and greed. Its one mans attempt to find what is the truth and the cause as literally millions are overlooked and die in fighting massacres and neglect in the middle of Africa. These are stories that rarely play upon our attention, that should. SECONDHAND COPY, as new -even bought from us, but doesnt look as if it was read.

Beyond War (5526)

Beyond War (5526)

The Human Potential For Peace

BY DOUGLAS FRY
Douglas P. Fry convincingly argues in Beyond War, the facts show that our ancient ancestors were not innately warlike--and neither are we. Drawing on archaeology and fascinating fieldwork on hunter-gatherer bands from around the world, Fry debunks the idea that war is ancient and inevitable. Fry shows that, far from being natural, warfare actually appeared quite recently along with changes in social organization and especially the rise of states. But Fry also points out that even today, when war seems ever present (at least on television), the vast majority of us live peaceful, nonviolent lives.SECONDHASND COPY -as new condition.

The Ancient Civilizations Of The Southwest

BY SCOTT WARREN
SECONDHAND, pretty good condition. School library type book, his is an investigation of three loosely identified Native American cultural groups: the Anasazi, the Hohokam, and the Mogollon. The first three brief chapters are an explanation of archaeological techniques and a description of the physical setting that was home to the cultures included. Each is then depicted in separate chapters. The book is graced with attractive color photographs, many of them full-page. Friends, Foes, And Reforms, 1820-1860

BY LOUIS FILLER
SECONDHAND COPY, good condition paperback that probably looked a bit messy even when new. Sounds like an interesting tome, but I think the author comes at the issues from a very Conservative angle that may lead to greater insight but isn't what folks or at least Quakers often get to read, and I am afraid I haven't read it myself.

Ego & Archetype (77)

EDWARD EDINGER
SECONDHAND COPY- paperback that looks as if it ghas been read, but otherwise good. his book is about the individual's journey to psychological wholeness, known in analytical psychology as the process of individuation. Edward Edinger traces the stages in this process and relates them to the search for meaning through encounters with symbolism in religion, myth, dreams, and art. For contemporary men and women, Edinger believes, the encounter with the self is equivalent to the discovery of God. The result of the dialogue between the ego and the archetypal image of God is an experience that dramatically changes the individual's worldview and makes possible a new and more meaningful way of life.

Encyclopedia Of American Quaker Genealogy, Volume Two (776)

Pennsylvania And New Jersey

BY WILLIAM WADE HINSHAW
Good condition, Margaret Hope Bacon's copy. Has records from Salem, Burlington, Philadelphia, Fall Areas. The information contained in this volume is of great importance because Quakers did not have their vital statistics recorded in civil offices prior to 1850. The records kept by Friends Monthly Meetings during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries usually consisted of births, deaths, marriages, and, of, certificates of removal for Society of Friends members who relocated from one meeting to another. Its incomprehensible to me, but is, I gather, a goldmine for genealogists and historians.
