When Atheism Becomes Religion

America's New Fundamentalists

BY CHRIS HEDGES

Brief Description:
Born from the author's debates with Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens, this book finds Hedges asserting that the so-called "new atheism" is as intolerant, chauvinistic, bigoted, anti-intellectual, and self-righteous as religious fundamentalism. In other words, a new form of an old and dangerous faith. "Liberal churches" don't get off much easier. All of these positions suffer from the same fallacy, that the human species can morally progress toward their version of utopia. Hedges considers this provocative and engaging book a call to face reality and his is surely an important voice in the debate on that state of faith is America.
